Our advice:
Anyone who has not yet experienced it should definitely take part in a Neptune baptism. The king of the seas and his entourage are part of the gathering and baptize volunteers on the way to the stage.
Opening program of Warnemünde Week
A stage will be set up in front of Warnemünde's landmark, the lighthouse, on which personalities from the Baltic Sea resort will put on a colorful programme. Musicians and artists from the region ensure that the anticipation for the following days increases. The program ends with the tapping of the barrel by the mayor.
The shopping and entertainment mile
From the train station along the old stream Traders line the shore with their tempting stalls. You can have your portrait painted by local artists or buy maritime souvenirs. Children's eyes watch out: There are not only delicious sweets here, but also inviting carousels.
sailing and competitions
The Warnemünde Week is originally a maritime folk festival, where of course the sailing ships should not be missing. Visitors experience top-class sailing regattas. Some regatta courses take place very close to shore, so you can experience everything up close and share the excitement.
dragon boat race
The dragon boat drivers organized in the association draw attention to themselves from afar with their rhythmic drumming. The traditional sporting event on the Alter Strom is now widely known. A fascinating racing atmosphere is created when the competition boats push their paddles into the water for the first time. The race track is located along the Alter Strom, where the teams compete for the coveted Coca-Cola Sprint Cup. Visitors can see it up close from the shore.
Beach Handball Days
The Warnemunde Beach is made for beach handball. During the Warnemünde Week, women's and men's teams play for a place in the final on two consecutive days. In addition, a traditional tournament of the former is held, which can only be played from 40+. The venue is the Sport & Beach Arena on Strand Block 3.
shanty meeting
This has also always been an integral part of the Warnemünde Week: the meeting of the shanty choirs from the northern federal states. Each choir stands once on the stage in front of the lighthouse and presents an excerpt from their program.
washing up
This is also a tradition in Warnemünde: driving along the river in self-made vehicles and literally staying afloat. The boats should not have a motorized drive, they move under their own power. Neptune himself opens the washing machine race.
Warnemünde traditional costume meeting
Every year, the traditional costumes meeting marks the end of the Warnemünde Week. In a parade through the former fishing village accompanied by hearty music, the past is remembered once again.
Sailors and competitions during the festival week
During the Warnemünde Week, the maritime traditions should also be maintained. These include above all the competitions on the water with international participation. Due to the almost straight course of the coastline, the sea area in front of Warnemünde is perfect for hosting sailing regattas. The area covers the entire area east of Warnemünde from Graal-Müritz to Nienhagen. The water depth in this area is between 8 and 18 meters and is free of natural obstacles and shipping traffic.
For the visitors there is a unique scenery during the regattas. You are very close to the sailors and experience the competitions up close and personal.
