Rostock rose garden and ramparts
The green oasis on the outskirts of Rostock city center the novel 1860 created by the Rostock city architect Joachim Wilcken. As in 19. century the medieval defenses were rendered ineffective by modern warfare technology, the rose garden replaced parts of the city wall, ramparts and moats.
Especially in the summer months you are surrounded by a magnificent splendor of roses when you walk through one of the oldest green areas in the city. Not far from the rose garden is the well-known bronze sculpture "The Drinker" in the Rostock ramparts. The ramparts, some of which are still very well preserved today Relics of the former city fortificationswho have favourited Rostock 1830 still fully delimited.
IGA Park Rostock
The international garden exhibition moved 2003 of 2,6 million visitors to the Baltic Sea to marvel at attractions such as the floating gardens, the large cable car or the numerous national contributions. Today you can on the 100 hectares of fascinating garden art as well as typical buildings from the 31 participating nations. In the willow dome, also called "the green church on the Baltic Sea" Church services and concerts take place regularly. Covered with green leaves, it has a dome height of 14 meters the largest living structure in the world. For children there are numerous playgrounds and lots of interesting things to explore.
Also the traditional ship with the current name "Peace" has its berth here. It is part of the Rostock Maritime Museum and shows you interesting things about shipbuilding and shipping history in regular exhibitions.
Botanical garden
On 7,8 ha area experience in the botanical garden over 10.000 plant species. A tree garden with a wide variety of trees and shrubs extends almost over the entire site. You learn in the tropical greenhouse Plant species from the tropical rainforest in Africa and Madagascar know.
On your walk, discover other sights such as the 0,5 ha large mountain and rock garden area, biotopes and protected plant species.
